Level Access Wet Room Installation

Our customers son had heard that we are wet room specialists and decided to give us a call as the current bath was no suitable for his parents to access safely and wanted improved and unrestricted access. Following the initial call we made an appointment with his parents and subsequently carried out a survey of the bathroom, which led us to recommend a complete level access wet room. A normal survey takes around 1-2 hrs as the smallest of details are assessed and discussed with the customer to determine the best solution for their needs.

Upon signed contract we agreed an installation date with the customer and ordered the necessary materials.

The very first thing we did prior to commencing work is to protect any surface that would remain with carpet protectors, dust sheets and rubber matting to ensure any mess is kept to a minimum. On this particular install there was a cast iron bath to consider which in required demolishing before deposal, to guarantee that no walls or stairs would be damaged in the process.

The next phase was to remove all the old sanitary ware and flooring, this was essential to enable us to undertake the plumbing first fix because the waste outlet of the shower dec is much lower than the original waste of a bath.

Once the plumbing was completed we laid the shower dec by cutting out the floor, bracing the joists and fixed the shower dec in readiness to be tanked (made watertight) as it was on the first floor.

When all plumbing works was finished we prepared the walls ready for new grey marble cladding and cap & cove in the shower area before the Altro Safe tread flooring www.altro.co.uk/Altro-Aquarius was to be laid.

We installed a high rise toilet, that sits approx 46mm higher than a standard toilet making it far more comfortable and accessible for our customer to use with the added assistance of a drop down rail.

The Mira shower was installed with its extended riser rail and hose making showering in the seated position much more accessible to use. We also fitted half height screens, a chrome towel radiator and grab rails. On the last day of the construction we had the bathroom professional cleaned throughout and sealed all the joins.

‘Ross was professional and efficient from the outset. He carried out a thorough Home Assessment, listening to our requirements, and produced a clear and detailed plan of the proposed level access wet room. This gave us confidence that the bathroom would be suitable for our needs when finished. Once we decided to go ahead, he gave us a start date. He turned up as arranged and the work was carried out competently and with skill by him and his team. He told us day by day what they were doing. Everyone on the team was polite and considerate. They cleared up as they went along, making sure that as little mess as possible was carried through the house. At the end of the day, other than the bathroom, you wouldn’t say they’d been in the house. The bathroom looks beautiful and the work done by Ross and his team means we can all relax and enjoy our new bathroom safely.
